Kostobe is an ancient settlement dating from the 6th to the 12th century. It is located on the right bank of the Talas River, east of the Sarykemer village in the Baizak District. In 2014, this historical site was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The ancient city was first explored by the renowned scientist A. N. Bernshtam in 1938. Between 1985 and 1987, the Taraz Archaeological Expedition from the Institute of History, Archaeology, and Ethnography of the Kazakh SSR Academy of Sciences, led by K. M. Baipakov, conducted excavations at the site. It is said that the vast city was once surrounded by high walls. The remaining walls reach up to 3 meters in height, while the corner towers stood 16 to 18 meters tall. Traces of four gates have been discovered in this historically rich city, though only fragments separated from the main walls survive today.

The Kostobe settlement is a key point of interest for tourists. Looking ahead, ongoing and future initiatives will undoubtedly allow upcoming generations to gain a deeper understanding of this unique site.
